The number one tool used in evangelism is your mouth.  The best way to evangelize is to "Just do it".  Our flesh will never be ready and we will never have time, people aren't going to stop us on the street and ask us about God.  The truth of the matter is that no matter how "Christian" we act, large masses of people are not going to ask us what is different about us.  When it comes to spreading the Word of God, Jesus said to go into the world for a reason, the world is not waiting in line to hear the Gospel.
I am not trying to paint a bleak picture here, just being honest.

Gospel Tracts: Gospel tracts are very easy and inexpensive to use, for the most part you can get the word in to the hands of 100 people for around $6.00.  They are so easy because you don't even have to hand them to someone.  If you are a little shy, or unsure of yourself you can start by leaving them around where people can find them.

Money:  One of the guys that I witness with accuses me of paying people to listen to me.  That isn't totally true.  I have been known to use the god of this country (Money) to get peoples attention.  I have found that young people are more than willing to answer trivia questions for a dollar per right answer.  After a few easy ones, you move on to the "Good Test" (See www.needGod.com for the good test)

Slight of Hand:
Some folks use slight of hand or "Magic Tricks" to draw a crowd.  Once you have their undivided attention, all you need is a transition in to the Gospel presentation.  There are many tracts available that have optic illusions that may be used very effectively.

Clothing: There are several places on the internet that you can purchase evangelism based shirts and hats.  I like www.evangelismstuff.com, (linked on this site) many of them have very "to the point" messages on them.

This is just some the most common tools.  With a little research you can find many more, I am sure there is one for every occasion.  The truth of the matter is that you have to be looking for something to help you evangelize and not a reason to evangelize.
